21 Weeks

How far along? 21 weeks
Due Date: August 11, 2012, my early prediction is that she will arrive on July 22, 2012
Total weight gain: none since my last doctor's visit
Maternity clothes? Not yet...still just yoga pants and maxi dresses and one trusty pair of J Crew khakis that still button :)
Stretch marks? No...my Mustela is worth the price so far
Sleep: Like a rock!
Best moment this week:  Our 20 week checkup...seeing all of Miss Caroline's limbs, organs, and other parts all healthy and in working order! She is currently breech and anterior, neither of which they tell me is dangerous or abnormal.  She will most likely flip from the breech position at some point.
Miss Anything? Still miss being comfortable working out harder like with Crossfit or P90X, but it's not worth it if it's something that could hurt the baby, so I just workout with Pure Barre, which is amazing, and walking as well as some light weights
Movement: She is very active after I work out, as well as at night. The doctor said I shouldn't expect to feel her until later since she is anterior, but I do feel her with quite a bit of regularity now.
Food cravings: Nothing really specific lately. Still trying to eat very healthy and limit sweet treats.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Still no, hopefully that won't change.
Gender: Baby Girl
Symptoms: Movement, still occasional back pain, mostly on days I don't work out or sit for too long
Belly Button: Still in
Rings: On
Happy or Moody: Happy. Finding out the baby and myself are both healthy is reason enough for everything to be right with the world, at least for today :)
Pregnancy Pet Peeve: The tummy touchers are coming out in full force! It happened to me twice in one day. I'm going to start touching back now haha
Looking forward to: Non-Baby: The UK vs UofL game is today, or as it's now being called, the second Civil War! Baby: Stripping and re-staining the dresser and crib for the nursery this week or next. I'll post pics as we get started on the nursery, but it's my goal to have it finished by mid to late May. Oh, and I'm starting a Preggercise group fitness class at a local fitness studio in town, Burn Personal Training. There are LOTS of pregnant people around these parts, so hopefully we'll have a great turnout for it!

Sweet Baby Finds

Thursday, March 29, 2012

Oh my WORD! I was so very happy to find these little gems in my mailbox this week! I ordered them a couple of weeks ago and had almost forgotten about them when they showed up, making my day (it doesn't take much for me, obviously)! I ordered them from the Carlie Anna Boutique on Etsy, which has so many cute options and they were a great price, too, just $5.99. I'm sure before all is said and done, I will have ordered more, even though I know she's just going to throw up on them, they're just so cute. It's now my new goal to learn to make these myself. Then there's these little gems...
This little hand appliqued layette gown is also on Etsy at Mildred and Madge. I've been on the hunt for some cute, personalized "coming home" outfits for bringing Caroline home from the hospital. I know it's early to shop for them, but I don't care, I want to find the perfect one for our baby.

This one I am going to have to order for sure! I love the pink and green color combination and that it's girly without being over the top. Another Etsy find at the FroggyTales Designs Boutique. Now, just need to find a bow or hat to go with this one!

And finally, this one I love because it's pink, but I think I would just want a solid color fabric for the lettering. The polka dots are very cute, just not my preference. Again, Etsy. TutuHairbow Boutique carries these.

As much as I do love to monogram things, I'm trying not to go overboard with it in case we have another girl...don't want to have to name her Caroline, too just to re-use things ;) So far, I've only done the monogrammed burp cloths pictured above, a receiving blanket and a sweet little pink hat. I'm sure it won't be the last of it, but I have to find my balance between personalizing things for  her and going nuts with it!

On another note, we did have our 20 week check up today, which was relatively quick and painless. We got to see Caroline on another ultrasound where we found out that she is perfectly healthy (praise God) and also, that she is currently breech and that the placenta is anterior, which they assured me was normal and nothing to be concerned about. It did make her harder to see on the ultrasound, though, especially in conjunction with the fact that she is a serious wiggle worm! Every time the tech got ready to take a still image of her for us, she'd move! But we were able to see what the tech told us was her smiling. It definately looked like she was grinning for us. To see that her heart, limbs, brain and organs are all fully functioning and where they are suppossed to be is such a relief. It's amazing how quickly you turn into panic mode once finding out you're pregnant! She currently weighs 12 ounces and has all the important things where they belong and in working order. What more could a mama-to-be ask for?

Maternista~ Like a Fashionista, but pregnant :)

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Anyone who knows me knows that I have always LOVED to shop and dress up, so as I get bigger, I don't want to feel like I'm limited to those hideous kangaroo pouch britches and boxy, shapeless tops. I'm always looking for cute non-maternity clothes that will work during most of my pregnancy and after once my body is back to normal. It seems like such a waste to invest too much in maternity clothes that you'll only realistically wear for a few months, ever. Two places I visit frequently online in search of both maternity and non-maternity clothes are Sugar Boutique based in Greenville, SC and The Blue Door Boutique out of Columbus, GA. Both have the most adorable and uniquely stylish things, amazingly quick service when you order online and a super helpful staff if you ever have any issues with anything. I'm adding some pics from their websites of some of my recent finds!
The Blue Door~ http://www.thebluedoorboutique.com/

Dress 1 is a really soft material and has an exposed zipper in the back with an adorable pattern! I love it with my cowboy boots. The material doesn't have much stretch to it, so it most likely won't carry me through all 9 months, but it fits great with plenty of room to grow for now. I'm wearing one similar in my 19 week picture with a cardigan and skilly belt.
Dress 2 is most likely going to be my Easter dress in a couple of weeks :) It is such a classic and flattering fit. It zips up the back and the material does have some stretch to it. Another one that will not be likely to carry me through past month 6 or 7 given that it has a more natural waistline instead of the most pregnant-friendly empire waist, but I loved it and couldn't resist!
Dress 3 I have in royal blue and am wearing in my 18 week picture. I could not love this dress anymore if I tried! It's the most flattering fit, it stretches comfortably and flows out around the waist into an A line fit. I love, love, LOVE it!
Dress 4 is again, not the stretchy fabric I'll need in a couple of months, but it does have the empire waistline on it that workds so well for a growing tummy! I'm also really loving hi-lo hemlines right now and Blue Door always has a great variety from which to choose with this trend.
Dress 5 I just ordered today and can't wait to get it in! This is one I think can take me to the finish line over the summer. I love the bright and airy colors, and again, am loving empire waisted items more and more as the weeks fly by and my belly grows out!
Dress 6 is the perfect church or wedding dress that would get most people through at least months 6-7 depending on the size you order. The black is slimming and the fit is very forgiving.
None of the dresses pictured above are maternity specific, but all work really well for me and are absolutely adorable. The Blue Door Boutique is definitely worth checking out every day. They have a really great turnover rate on their site, with new additions every day, but they also sell out of items quickly so be sure to check the site often!
Sugar Boutique~ http://www.scsugar.com/
All of the dresses pictured above are again, non-maternity and are by a wonderful line called Southern fRock (you can find them on Facebook!). All offer a very stretchy and generous fit and are ideal for hot, southern summers. They are simple, but sometimes the best things in life are :)

I also got some actual maternity pants from Sugar's online site by Maternal America for just $20! I got a pair of white skinny jeans and a paid of dark wash denhim skinny jeans. Both are the v-cute waistline that sits below your waist as oppossed to below your boobs. As my regular workout pants are starting to get tighter and tighter these days, I'm now on the hunt for cute and comfy workout clothes...again, nothing maternity specific, but I'm up for anything that will work for the duration and get me through to August! If you have any suggestions, let me know!

Halfway There~ 20 Weeks!

Sunday, March 25, 2012

How far along? 20 weeks! Officially halfway, or 5 months; this is really flying by!
Due Date: August 11, 2012
Total weight gain: Back to the weight I started in Week 8, so I've now gained the 5 pounds I had lost
Maternity clothes? Not yet, but the Maternal America maternity jeans I got from Sugar are seriously comfortable...I think I may wear them from now on haha
Stretch marks? Nope
Sleep: I seem to still be falling asleep pretty easily and hope it continues!
Best moment this week:  Our trip to north Georgia wine country, although probably not the first place a pregnant woman would choose to go, we really just spent our time hiking around some of the trails in the Unicoi National Forest and shopping in the local boutiques. This is our last planned trip before the baby gets here unless we decide to take another one spur of the moment.
Miss Anything? Cuddling up on my tummy. I feel like I can't do it anymore without squishing the baby
Movement: I'm starting to feel her more and more. I think I was expecting to feel that without a doubt, Caroline was flipping around in there, but her movements seem to be more subtle most of the time.
Food cravings: I FINALLY GOT CHICKEN MINIS!!! Thank you Chattanooga, TN!
Anything making you queasy or sick: All the junk we ate on our trip left me seriously not wanting to eat out ever again. I loaded up on fruits and veggies as soon as we got home
Gender: Baby Girl
Symptoms: Still some pain in my lower back, feeling some movement, and it's possible that my "pregnancy brain" is kicking in....either that, or I'm as scatterbrained as I always have been but can now blame it on pregnancy ;)
Happy or Moody: Feeling very blessed each and every day.
Rings: On
Belly Button: In
Pregnancy Pet Peeve: I can't really think of one...
Looking forward to: We have a routine ultrasound this Thursday to check up little girl's progress. I can't wait to see her sweet little face for probably the last time until we see her in person, and I pray each and every night that she continues to grow healthy and that everything will be normal.

19 Weeks

Saturday, March 17, 2012

How far along? 19 weeks
Due Date: August 11, 2012
Total weight gain: I haven't weighed yet this week since I've been traveling so I have no clue!
Maternity clothes? Just lots of maxi dresses with the weather warming up
Stretch marks? No, but I live in fear every day of finding them. Probably still too early to worry yet
Sleep: Pretty normal. Didn't get much sleep this week, I was keeping the interstates hot
Best moment this week:  After worrying that I hadn't really felt her move much, she moved around for about 10 minutes last night when I was going to sleep :)
Miss Anything? Ham in my eggs
Movement: Not really during the day but if I lay on my left side, I can feel her sometimes
Food cravings: I can't express how bad I've wanted chicken minis from Chik fil a for about the last 2 months and STILL haven't gotten there before 10:30. But other than that, the usual fruits and just got these AMAZING pineapple fruit popcicles by Edy's
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope
Gender: Baby Girl
Symptoms: Pain started this week in the left side of my lower back, probably because I always sleep on that side
Happy or Moody: Happy, happy, happy! I got to see SO many of my very best friends this week that I haven't seen in a long time since they live all over the country. So to get to see them all in one week was incredible and made me feel so blessed!
Rings: On
Belly Button: In
Pregnancy Pet Peeve: The fact that I get out of breath so easy doing random things like the laundry even though I work out all the time
Looking forward to: Our 20 week ultrasound in 2 weeks! So I guess technically, it's our 21 week ultrasound. Can't beleive it's practically already halfway over.

It's worth noting, I don't actually look as pregnant as I do in this picture, just look at the one from last week haha! But I sort of like it, so I used it anyway.

What's in a Name?

Friday, March 16, 2012

Baby girl now has a complete name, which means a complete monogram so I can get to work monogramming absolutely everything in sight:)
I knew without a doubt that if baby was a girl, I wanted to name her Caroline for a few reasons. First and most obvious, it has part of my dad's name in it, which I won't mention since he would kill me and has always hated his middle name.  Also, mine and Juston's favorite place is in South Carolina, so I like the thought of my favorite first born child and our favorite place having a name in common. My absolute favorite middle name to add to it was Suzanne. My mom's middle name is Sue and it just goes and sounds so sweet and southern, little Caroline Suzanne...BUT, Juston just could not get on board with my middle name choice. He threw out a few that I just had to outright shoot down! haha After considering Caroline Emily and Caroline Elizabeth, both of which I liked, one day I randomly e-mailed to ask if he liked a middle name that had popped into my head. That very same day, before reading the e-mail I'd sent him earlier, he called to ask me if I liked that exact same name, so, as He tends to do, it seemed like God had sent us a sign. Juston didn't immediately love her first name and it's not my favorite middle name, but life and marriage are all about compromising and I do like the way it sounds together and the way her monogram will look.  So...while I'd still prefer my first choice since I think it goes the best together, we've finally decided to go with...
Caroline LeeAnn
Still sounds sweet and southern and best of all it combines aspects of my dad's name and his dad's name so while she's not named after anyone, she does represent both sides of our family.
One last thing I wanted to share is my favorite pregnancy accessory that I've found so far, a necklace from a cute little shop in Paris, KY called "Peacock Ado". I've never seen them anyplace besides this store and if you're expecting it and love the necklace as much as I do, the shop does have a Facebook from which you can call in an order!

Best Dressed Baby

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

These clothes and accessories for baby Caroline are just over the top cute! But I expect nothing less from Mud Pie, which is the company who makes everything pictured in this post! The outfits and bloomers below are already hanging in her closet...

And the rest, will be very soon! I'm just crazy about everything Mud Pie makes. Most boutiques that carry cute kids clothes will have something by Mud Pie in the shop, but if you can't find it near you, just google search Mud Pie and you can shop online directly from their website.

I think my favorite would have to  be the pink ruffled romper!

18 Weeks

Monday, March 12, 2012

How far along? 18 weeks
Due Date: August 11, 2012
Total weight gain: down 2 pounds from where I was when finding out I was pregnant
Maternity clothes? No, but I am going to have to invest in some shorts soon because it's heating up in KY!
Stretch marks? No, but I live in fear every day of finding them. Probably still too early to worry yet
Sleep: I sleep good once I'm asleep, but sometimes it takes awhile to go to sleep. I've always slept on my tummy which is starting to get more difficult
Best moment this week:  Shopping for some SUPER cute things for Caroline...a smocked sleeper, monogrammed blanket and hat, shoes, socks :)
Miss Anything? Not really at the moment, but soon I will miss sleeping on my tummy
Movement: Not with any regularity, but from time to time, I can feel her fluttering around in there
Food cravings: Any kind of fruit
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope
Gender: Baby Girl
Symptoms: A growing belly and occasional movement, some days I get tired no sooner than I get up
Happy or Moody: Happy, especially when I get visits from special friends who live out of town, which is happening twice this week alone!
Pregnancy Pet Peeve: Letting my family find out how much I HATE having my stomach touched, then each one of them taking turns trying to touch my stomach. They all got smacked
Looking forward to: Getting the crib and chest for the bursery stripped and stained so we can move them into the nursery. Still have a while before we can do this, but I look forward to it nonetheless.

Pregnant Chick Reading

I've always been a big reader! Magazines, books, blogs, you name it and I'll read it. So since it's recommended that when you're pregnant, you need to read up on some of the books out on the market, I picked up a few to get me started.  Obviously, they're not the biggest page-turners you'll ever read, but I wasn't really expecting them to be.
"What to Expect When You're Expecting" by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel is pretty much the straightforward, information laden book every pregnant lady is looking for. My sister brought me a copy the DAY I told my family about the baby. It has a lot of useful information, like breakdowns of what to expect each week, how the baby is developing, monthly and trimester-by-trimester information like what to eat, exercise suggestions, commonly asked questions and more. I'm just reading this one as I come to the weeks in my pregnancy. Some of it, I just skipped and some of it I read. Like I said, not really a page-turner, but informative with the things you'll want to know with new and revised edition available.

"The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" by Vicki Iovine is a much more lighthearted, but still informative book for all the pregnant chicks out there. I got mine off of Amazon.com and am about halfway through it. It gives a mother-of-four's humorous take on everything from childbirth to stretchmarks to falling in love with your doctor and everything in between. As I read it, I take it all with a grain of salt, however, parts of the book are a little extreme and I think this woman experienced the extremes of pregnancy. She talks about throwing something at her husband one day early in her pregnancy and how it was a direct result of the pregnancy hormones. I don't know about all pregnant women, but I have yet to feel the urge to hurl things across the room at my husband with no provocation. She also discusses how vehemently she feels that pregnant women should not exercise, which as a personal trainer, I couldn't disagree with more. Even if exercising during your pregnancy doesn't directly benefit your labor process as the author claims, which I'm not sure I agree with, it will nonetheless make you feel better and help you get back to your pre-baby body that much quicker. I still have quite a bit left to read, but the author never claims to be the ultimate authority on all things pregnant, just that she's sharing her experience to better enlighten those reading it, and that's how I take it. The advice I find useful, I'll heed and the advice I find ridiculous, I'll ignore.

This magazine is great! Lots of good information, exercises and more. Unfortunately, it's only a bi-monthly publication, but still worth picking up at your local grocery or newsstand. I don't intend to subscribe as I don't want a full year of it with only about 5 months of pregnancy to go, but I would definately recommend picking up the current issue if you see it out. The website can be found here.
Happy reading!

17 Weeks

Sunday, March 11, 2012

How far along? 17 weeks
Due Date: August 11, 2012
Total weight gain: down 3 pounds from where I was when finding out I was pregnant
Maternity clothes? No, maxi dresses do wonders for a pregnant chick!
Stretch marks? NopeSleep: Like a baby :)
Best moment this week:  Feeling Baby Caroline move around, twice! Feels a little bit like having butterflies
Miss Anything? Ummmm, nothing that I can think of
Movement: Twice now, she should start getting more and more active soon
Food cravings: Watermelon, grapes, bananas and vanilla ice cream
Anything making you queasy or sick: No, I'm very fortunate to still be feeling great.
Gender: Baby Girl
Symptoms: A growing belly and occasional movement
Happy or Moody: Happy Mama :)
Pregnancy Pet Peeve: The second I see someone who has either just found out I'm pregnant, or hasn't seen me since finding out, they automatically look at my tummy to see how big I'm getting! haha I don't even think people know they're doing it, it's just a natural reaction
Looking forward to: Deciding on a final design for her nursery

Please excuse my horrible hair in the picture from this week! It was after a three hour cheer practice, which can get rough on a coach the week of a competition! haha

Baby Caroline...First Look

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

I was not going to post our ultrasound pictures online at all, but Juston has had a few out-of-town friends ask about seeing these, so here she is! This was our very first picture of baby Caroline done at our very first ultrasound in January. I was almost 12 weeks when we had this done. It was completely surreal to think that this little thing is in my tummy. It still doesn't seem completely real but seeing her at both of our appointments so far, it's starting to settle in.
It's crazy to see how much she'd grown within a month since our first ultrasound. The photo above is from our gender scan appointment a few weeks ago so she's almost 16 weeks here. I can't get the picture to rotate the right way for some reason, so just tilt your head to look at it :)

We are excited already for our next appointment at the end of this month because we will get to see her via ultrasound for most likely the last time until she's here in person. Juston and I neither one really want to do the 4-D ultrasound, we'd rather be suprised about something since we did find out her gender. Also, Juston is adamant that the pictures creep him out for whatever reason.

Baby on the Move

Monday, March 5, 2012

As much as my husband and I LOVE to travel and explore all things below the Mason Dixon, I find myself hopeful that our baby girl will share our love of all things Southern, especially traveling to see the places we love so very much. I want our baby to be able to learn and experience things firsthand as she grows. It's one thing to read about the first shots of the Civil War in a history book, but another thing completely for us to be able to take her to Fort Sumter in Charleston and actually stand where those very shots were fired. It's with this hope in mind that I've been searching the internet for some of the travel essentials that baby girl will need when we hit the road in the months and years to come!
This toile carseat cover is just too stinking cute! I haven't decided which pattern I want, but I am definately going to do a carseat cover. Since our firstborn is going to be a girl, I want to make sure that the essential pieces we get, like strollers, pack and plays, swings, etc are gender neutral. That being said, it they make slipcovers for all things baby so that I can bring a little pink into those items and a carseat cover like this one will be just the answer. And toile is one of my absolute favorite patterns, especially for baby. The one pictured above is a custom design by Dimples and Dandelions . It's obviously pretty pricey, so I'm hoping one of my crafty friends or relatives will be able to help me figure out how to make one, or that I can find a much cheaper version...the search continues.
I know most people just cover up a carseat with a blanket, but I like the idea that this cover will fasten securely to the handle to ensure that it will stay put no matter the weather. Again, lots of patterns from which to choose, and I'm sure the one I ultimately choose will be must more girly and possibly monogrammed ;) The one pictured above can be found at https://www.carseatcanopy.com/cart as well as some other selections.

The company that produces my favorite, stylish diaper bags has done it again! How cute is this stroller bunting bag by Petunia Pickle Bottom? This would obviously be a great accessory to have as the baby gets big enough to travel in an umbrella stroller or in a forward facing stroller in general. I love the neutral pattern and color of this as well. At one point, this could be found on Pottery Barn Kids, but I couldn't find it last time I searched for it.

I tried and tried to find a gender neutral stroller and carseat combo while we were registering that I liked, but just couldn't. So alas, I did register for the pink one. The one we finally chose is by ChiccoCortina, but like I said, using a carseat cover if the next baby doesn't end up being a girl will cover up the pink nicely.

And finally, the Pack and Play...watching us try to transport this sucker will be a hoot, no doubt. I'm assuming there's a way to break them down and make them more travel friendly, a job, no doubt that will be reserved for my husband since I'd just end up breaking it if I tried. I found this one on Target's website, where they had a lot of other cute options. I didn't have as much luck searching around Babies R Us, but I really liked this one.
I'm sure there are plenty of travel necessities we'll need I haven't even begun to think about, but we'll start with the small road trips, and probably have to visit a lot of Wal-Marts and other baby stores along the highways of the South. All part of the adventure and making memories as a family in the years to come.
