Fun Ideas for your 4th of July Cookout

Sunday, June 30, 2013

Just a few fun things I've come across on Pinterest that we're going to give a whirl this Independence Day! Thought y'all may enjoy trying a few as well. Happy (almost) 4th!

For the Cookout:

Not exactly cookout material, obviously, but a great way to start your 4th!

I'm planning on doing this trifle, or something similar in addition to BBQ and cookies for our cookout at my mom and dad's house. Still debating whether to keep Caroline up for the fireworks since it's her last first holiday, or just stick with our regular nighttime routine since it's not like she'll remember it anyway.

For Decorating:

Patriotic Bunting (original source not linked)

This is by far my favorite decoration to see on front porches! I just love the look.

I'll have to be sure and post a pic of our festive little front porch (I'm being generous calling it that since it's more of a stoop). I love decorating for holidays, but have slacked big time the last year with the baby. I'm getting back on track now though since she's becoming a bit more independent...how timely of her. Hope y'all have a fantastic Fourth!

Brittany Fuson Paper

Thursday, June 20, 2013

I absolutely love finding fun and unique prints for around my house and I have found some adorable ones that I'm ordering to hang up in my closet. They're by Brittany Fuson Paper and y'all have GOT to check her out!

Here's a few of the ones I have my eye on to order. They're all just so cute I can't decide which to do!

How perfect will they be with a white matte in a solid color picture frame! I need to make up my mind already.

If we decide to have another baby someday, I will absolutely be using these for our thank you notes.

There are two that I have absolutely, without a doubt made up my mind to get and that's these:

Could you just die over the Mean Girls print! I love it so much :) If you love paper goods as much as I do, go on and visit www.brittanyfuson.com and no, this is not a sponsored post, I just love these prints;)

 Weekend Recap:

I made Father's Day brunch for Juston and my nephew Sunday morning. They camped out the night before and went fishing early for my nephew's birthday so they got home a little too late for breakfast. Anyway, I made cheese grits, eggs, bacon, buttermilk biscuits and fresh fruit. I love breakfast food; I could literally eat it for every meal. We also had my family out for dinner Sunday evening so I made the hubby's request, homemade apple pie. I use Southern Living's recipe. It's really time consuming, but so worth it. For dinner, we fried up the fish the boys caught that morning. Ah such manly activities for Father's Day...hunting up food to feed the whole family.

How much does Caroline look like my dad?! Maybe it's their hairdo, but they're both pretty darn cute.

What I'm Wearing:

Perfect church dress, perfect wedding dress, perfect everything in the summertime Linen dress by Judith March. In. Love.

What I'm working on:

Here's a few things listed in my Etsy Shop:

Working on getting quite a few more baby bows added including Gameday colors and monogrammable seersucker bows, but I'm off to a good start so far. I really want to be able to still generate income myself, but still spend the majority of my time with Caroline, so I started an Etsy shop as a way to test the waters. I keep contemplating doing an online version of the giftshop I had here in town a few years back. Hmmmm.

What's Making me Smile:

What else...my cute little chick :) Yep, she stands up in her little car now when you try to push her around in it. This child is Hell.On.Wheels. Literally. I feel like I have a future Road Rager on my hands. Don't have a clue where on earth she'd have learned those tendencies...certainly not from her Mama.

Saved the best for last. Could you just die?! I mean, full on pageant pose with the pretty feet pop toe (Toddlers and Tiarras reference anyone?) to sucking in that little tummy. Her platform will be World Peace. Miss Kentucky, ya better watch your crown.

What I'm Watching:

So last week, I developed a new obsession...Pretty Wicked Moms on the Lifetime network. I. love. it. I enjoy smut in the rare times that I do watch TV, I can admit it. Luckily, this show is preceded by Dance Moms, so it's a full night of ridiculousness for me. If you haven't watched this show yet, you need to. These women are unbelievable and I really can't decide whether to be completely annoyed by them or love them, but I'm leaning mostly towards loving them.

What I'm Reading:

No books this week. I just finished reading The Bluegrass Brothers series by Kathleen Brooks after seeing an FB friend highly recommend them. Ummm, I don't really know what to say about them. The writing is mediocre, but definitely improves and develops with each book, the story lines are predictable and the characters aren't very well developed, but for some reason I couldn't put the stinking books down. For the first time, I felt like a "housewife" reading these things, especially if you see the covers. Ohh emmm geee, so ridiculous. But I started them so I had to finish them. Not the best books I've read, but not the worst. So now, I'm playing catch up with my magazine subscriptions of Southern Living and Southern Lady.

What We're Wearing:

I spend my summers in the water...either on the boat or in the pool, so this tankdress is the perfect swimsuit cover-up for throwing on over a suit for errands in between pool sessions :) Throw your hair in a side braid and add a fedora and you're all set!

Couldn't pass this onesie up when I saw it on Etsy. And you know I have the Judith March tank to match :)

What I'm Working On:

Our new window boxes....(these aren't them...yet).

Anyone who knows me knows of my deep and abiding love for Charleston, SC, my absolute favorite place. I'd literally go there every weekend if I could. Heck, I'd move there in a hot second if my whole family would pack up and come with. But since I can't get there as often as I'd like, I decided that I wanted to bring a part of Charleston to our old KY home in the form of their fabulous window boxes.

So far, we have ordered, received and mounted our window boxes on the front of our house, but I'm trying to decide just how I want them to look.

There are so many different options, but my goal is for anyone who's been to Charleston to feel like that's right where my window boxes came from.

I love them neutral palates, but I also love bright splashes of color from flowers like petunias or marigolds. I'm as far as knowing I need a thriller (tall focal point, typically centered in the box), a spiller like ivy or some other trailing flower, and a filler like maybe coleus or caladiums.

I have a lot of work to do on them, but I'm so excited to see how they turn out. I'll be sure to post a picture to share with y'all once they're all filled up, hopefully this weekend!

Welp, that's about it for this Wednesday. Nothing much else going on around here besides lost of swimming and traveling and gardening. I absolutely adore this time of year!

Just because she looks so adorable here :) Outfit is by Posh Pickle.
