Snow Storm Vibes

Sunday, January 24, 2016

Many of y'all were probably in the same boat we were in this past Friday and Saturday. snowed in and stir crazy. It was a real bummer the timing of the storm because Juston was out of town for work and it kept him from getting home when he was supposed to. Caroline and I decided to hunker down at my parents house so that we wouldn't be by ourselves if it got as bad as all the weather people were saying it could. Ultimately, we got about 7 inches I'd say. Where Juston was got about 12 inches and an ice storm on top of that.

So, knowing the storm was coming, I picked up a couple of things to keep Caroline entertained while we were snowed in and she had a blast.

Lately, she has been all about "arts and crafts" as she calls any type of little project we undertake. We were walking through the craft section of Wal-Mart the other day and she spotted the Elsa bank you see above. It was all white and came with all the paint and instructions for what to paint which color. Honestly, I was a little hesitant to get her this because I thought it would end up making a mess, but she only ended up getting a little bit on her arm and finger and it kept her occupied for a solid hour or more. She absolutely LOVED it! Well worth the $10 I'd say. I have a doctor's appointment in Lexington for the baby later this week, so I think I'm going to run in Hobby Lobby and try to find her some more little "arts and crafts". I've been searching Pinterest for ideas on things to do with her, so we have a few things to try.

Since I couldn't get to the gym Saturday morning, I treked next door to my sister's house to get some minutes in on the elliptical they have in their basement while Caroline played with her cousins.

Another activity we decided to do was cookie baking. What better way to spend some snow day time than baking up a storm! Caroline had three different cookies to choose from and she ended up choosing these confetti cookies. They turned out DELICIOUS and were super easy. I'll share the recipe later this week, y'all will not want to miss trying this one!

And of course, what snow storm would be complete without a little bit of sledding. This was Caroline's first time tackling the flood wall I used to sled all the time when I was a kid. Actually, it was her first time sledding period.  Her first trip down the wall she rode with my nephew and it was a big success to spite her wipeout at the bottom of the hill. She just hooted and hollered the whole way down and loved it! Her second trip down, she didn't love so much. She went with my oldest niece and got some snow to the face and was over it after that. She lasted about thirty minutes total outside which was more than enough for this mama. I'm not a cold weather person at all. Sledding maybe didn't make the best impression on her, but she loved making snow angels and throwing her snowballs at me. Juston was finally able to get home late Saturday so we were so excited to have him safe and sound with us again. Hope everyone stayed safe and warm over the snowy weekend.

Oh and one last thing before I wrap this up, did anyone else catch the new HGTV show Home Town on tv today? I absolutely loved it! I was skeptical at first because I feel like HGTV has tried to capitalize on the Fixer Upper success a few other times by basically using the same formula and inserting a new couple into it, but this show felt very genuine when I gave it a chance and watched it. I absolutely loved the couple and the design of the home was 100% my Southern style. If you get a chance to watch it, DO IT! I'm so hoping this show gets picked up on the regular.
