Oscar Favorites

Monday, February 29, 2016

I'll be honest, I never watch the Oscar award show, but I do love seeing all the red carpet fashion on the Red Carpet shows, so I thought I would share a few of my favorite looks from the show.

Love the color of this dress!

Rachel McAdams is perfect...She is so gorgeous. I don't love this dress from the front, but from the back it's stunning.

How cute is this baby bump look?! Love the embellishments

Such a pretty color and love the applique flowers.

Another killer bump look!

This may be my favorite look that I saw last night! Did I miss any standouts?

Small Business Saturday: Beaufort Linen Company

Saturday, February 27, 2016

Last summer, my family and I took our very first (but definitely not our last) trip to Beaufort, North Carolina. It is absolutely one of the most quaint little coastal towns I have visited. The vibe is very laid back, the people were all super friendly, we got some great seafood and I discovered a new little shop that I have basically been obsessed with since I first visited it. We were only in Beaufort for three days and I managed to get in not one, but two shopping visits at The Beaufort Linen Company. I've mentioned them on the blog a few times in the past I know when listing where I purchased things I'm wearing or things for our home. They are constantly refreshing their online inventory and restocking favorites, so check their site often.

Here are a few of my favorites that were available as of this post.

I've noticed these sell out quickly, but do get restocked frequently.

I really love these little dogs!

How gorgeous is this blue and white bedding! They have lots of other linen options from which to choose as well.

I'd gladly take one of everything in this picture they posted on their Instagram the other day! My favorite is the white ginger jar by far, but I sure do love the garden stools as well.

I've been eyeing the bath mat above for our master bathroom. It's also available in gray.

This decanter is so fancy and I love that there are also matching glasses.
And how could I leave out this gorgeous pineapple lamp?! Y'all do yourselves a favor and visit their website, or even better, if you're in Beaufort, NC stop in and meet the sweet owners and meander around for a spell.

Guest Bathroom Update

Thursday, February 25, 2016

I've been working on updating a few different spaces in our home, adding things I've acquired, changing furniture in and out, hanging pictures, etc and I have finally finished our Guest Bathroom update (I think), so I wanted to share  little before and after. I didn't do anything drastic like painting or changing our fixtures or anything, but it didn't cost much and cumulatively, it didn't take too awful long.

This room is pretty tough to take decent pictures of because there isn't a bit of natural light in it. I think every room in a house needs some source of natural light, so if we ever build, I'll be sure to factor that in.

Here's what the room looked like before, much of what's in here was here when I married Juston and moved in and it has taken me this long to decide what I wanted to do, get around to it and finally change it.

And for the after. Like I said, I didn't change a whole lot, but I like the room a whole lot better now than I did before. I started by asking Juston if I were to put up a new shower curtain, what colors would he be okay with (he's very funny about color in the house. He'd prefer it all be a shade of tan or white), but he mentioned that he'd be okay with navy, so I took that and my love for all things blue and white and ran with it. Here is the after

Once I picked a fabric I liked, I had Juston build the valance to go over the shower opening and I covered it in the fabric. I also used the same fabric to sew up some curtains.

I would love to find some blue and white ginger jars to put on top of the over john, but I haven't been able to find any in the right size so far.

I also think I may switch in some navy blue or green picture frames for the ones that are currently in the room. I had some extra ikat fabric, so I made up a dog bed for our shih tzu. This seems to be her favorite room in the house for some random reason and she will just go in here and sleep, so I figured why not.

I finally got my art work hung on the wall above the hand towels, too. Initially, I'd just planned on using blue and white, but when I got everything I'd planned on in the room, it just didn't feel right, didn't feel complete I guess you'd say. So I figured I'd bring in another color with the kelly green bath rugs and the kelly green towel. It's a bit more of a bold green than I initially wanted, but as close as I was able to find. I do still really like it though.

One thing I'd LOVE to do but know that I won't is to paint the ugly vanity. I am just not a fan of the builder grade honey oak cabinets and they are all over our house. There's not a thing wrong with them, so I can't justify replacing them right now, but I still hate them nonetheless. I'd love something like the photo below.

Source List:

Bath Mats and green towel: PB Kids
Monogram Hand Towel: Number Four Eleven
Over John Storage Cabinet: Pottery Barn

I'm still keeping my eye out for a few small accessories that I think will tie the whole space together and complete it nicely. I want to grab a towel hook to hang just outside of the shower for easy reach, I would love to find some ginger jars like I mentioned above and some other picture frames to replace the ones in there now. But this space is as finished as it will likely be before the baby arrives :)

30 Weeks + Some Recent OOTD's

Tuesday, February 23, 2016

How far along?  30 Weeks!!

Total weight gain:Up 17 pounds.
Maternity clothes: Yep and lots of stretchy britches!
Best moment of the week: Not baby related, but taking Caroline to the park this past weekend. We had the most gorgeous weather all weekend and were so ready for some time outside.

Food cravings: Not much. I've had to cut back to two normal sized meals and then small snacks in between to keep from being super uncomfortable by the end of the evening.

Feeling: Feeling pretty good overall. A bit uncomfortable at times, but that's only going to get worse as the next few weeks pass. I think it helps sort of knowing what to expect out of the last couple of months of pregnancy this go-around.

Baby Goodies Acquired: I snagged the cutest, softest sleeper from Feltman Brothers when they were having a special sale and I finally ordered the fabric to have the crib skirt made yesterday as well. Things are inching forward I suppose.

Symptoms: Tightness in my belly by the end of the day, drainage, waking up a lot during the night and starting to have some shortness of breath when I try and carry Caroline around for too long, which is so tough because my girl is attached to my hip most waking hours.

Pregnancy Fitness: Sticking with my workout plan. On some particular moves like squats and deadlifts, I have really decreased my weight and am upping my repetitions instead and I've completely given up intense cardio in favor of longer, moderate sessions instead. I rest a lot more in between sets, too, so I've added about ten minutes to my total workout times I'd say.

I may have shared some of these outfits already, but thought I'd post again. I'm always on the lookout for cute maternity options, so when I find something I like, I share :)
White cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer | White Tank: Lilly Pulitzer | Pants: Beaufort Linen Co. | Tassel Necklace: Bourbon and Boweties

These pants are seriously the best! None of this outfit is maternity, but it all works, for now at least, with my growing belly. I'm working on hemming the pants now. I had literally just pulled them out of my mailbox and had to put the on immediately the day I got them!

Herringbone Vest: J Crew | Buffalo Plaid Popover: Gap Maternity | Black Leggings: Gap Maternity | Boots: Old from Shoe Sensation | Doggie photobomb: Compliments of Dixie

Scarf: J Crew Factory | Jacket: J Crew Factory | Dress: Old Navy Maternity | Boots: Target

This dress is so simple and sure to be a staple for multiple seasons. It is sleeveless, but just throw on a jacket or cardigan to make it work during spring or fall depending on your due date. It'll also look great with flipflops or dressed up a bit with some cute wedges and jewelry. I imagine I'm going to get a lot of use out of this over the next two and a half months.

Piko in Blush: Sugar Boutique | Maternity Skinny Jeans: Gap Maternity | Fringe Booties: Target | Tassel Necklace: Bourbon and Boweties

Piko tops have been one of my favorites this pregnancy. As much as I love bump hugging tops that show off my belly, some days, you just want some more flow to your wardrobe ;)

Our Weekend

Monday, February 22, 2016

We had such a fun weekend doing a whole lotta nothing around our parts.  I've mentioned before that Juston's work has him gone a lot right now, so weekends are pretty sacred to us being that it's really our only family time. We try not to commit to anything we don't absolutely want or need to do and spend most weekends just hanging out around the house together. I know, an exciting life we lead, but there are lots of exciting things to look forward to in the coming months, so I'm totally fine with being boring for the time being.

Chambray Shirt: J Crew | Kentucky T-shirt: The Home T | Cropped Leggings: Gap Maternity | Shoes: Old Converse

As much as I love dressing my baby bump, it does start to get more challenging as it grows, because I don't want to spend anything on more maternity clothes that I'll only get a few wears out of, but I also don't want to stretch out my regular clothes that I want to fit me after the bump is gone. So most days, comfort wins out over looking fashionable. Oh well, most days the only ones who see me are Caroline and my parents anyway.

This literally hardly ever happens anymore, but Caroline was up pretty early Friday morning and just couldn't hang anymore by early that evening. She crawled up in my lap and sacked out for two hours! It worked out great since her and Juston stayed up pretty late playing that night.

We had a sneak peek of spring on Saturday and it was just wonderful. It was 70 degrees sunny and just one of those days that was meant for being outside. After eating brunch, we all got dressed and headed out to the park playground. I swear, anytime I get my child out amongst the general public at places like the park, I begin to seriously consider homeschool. Kids are so mean and rude and I blame their parents (up to a certain age). There was a little boy who just kept pestering Caroline everywhere she went to play. She loved the twisty slide and would politely wait her turn every time, waiting for me to tell her when it was okay to slide. Well, this little boy decided to plop himself down at the top and refuse to move for her to take her turn. He turned around and looked at her and said "No girls allowed" in a mean little tone. It took everything in my not to look at him and say "Well then I guess you better get out you little girl." I know, I'm an awful person. But I kept my mouth shut and Caroline just turned around and went down a different slide. I need to try and be more like my child haha.

This meme reminded me of myself at the playground. haha

Juston went for a run around the lake while Caroline and I were at the playground and when he got back, he snapped the picture above. What he says would be "his family portrait" since I'm always snapping pictures of Caroline.

This little balance beam was one of her favorite things. We've missed gymnastics since Christmas and we're traveling a bit over the next little bit, so she'll be getting back in class early this spring. She sure loves it so I can't wait to get her back.

After the park, Caroline helped me wash my car while Juston worked the grill and the animals followed out every move. After a late lunch, I headed off for my workout, then we had a family movie night, one of Caroline's very favorite things to do .

Sunday was a rainy day so we just laid low around the house, cleaning, cuddling and watching some Disney Junior. And our weekends are no longer complete without Caroline continually requesting for her daddy to play Mario on Super Nintendo. And here's how they play...

I typically sit in bed studying for my real estate class while they game. Juston actually beat the whole thing this weekend, so I don't know what they'll do now! Happy Monday, y'all!

Small Business Saturday: Little English

Saturday, February 20, 2016

This week, I wanted to share a brand with you that I found back when I had my brick and mortar shop here in my hometown a few years back. A lot of people are already familiar with Little English, but if you're not, you definitely want to check them out! They're carried at a lot of children's boutique shops, but you can also shop via their website if you don't have any shops near you that carry them. I'm going to share a few of my favorite pieces of theirs. I love, too that they are a Kentucky based company, specifically out of Lexington. The quality of the clothes is great and everything I ever carried was very well-made. My sister's youngest daughter had a lot of the Little English outfits from my shop and now they are Caroline's and all have held up great.

And some options for your little fellas...

Around the House

Friday, February 19, 2016

I've mentioned before about all of my ongoing, still unfinished projects I have going on around the house, so I thought I'd post a progress (or lack of) post to document things as they come along. I'm pretty sure at this point, not a single room in my house is completely decorated, cleaned or organized and I don't feel like I'm getting much closer just yet.

First there's what was probably my favorite room in the house, the guest room, that is in the process of transitioning into the nursery. I really hate giving up a guest room because we do have company overnight so frequently, but making this room the nursery just made the most sense when we went through our options.

Terrible lighting and picture, I know, but as you can see, the room is still half and half now. I have the crib up and in, the rocker has been brought up from the basement (I'm trying to decide if I'm going to make a new cover for this or just leave it as is) and his clothes are hanging in the closet, but that's about it. I'm ordering the fabric to have the crib skirt made, then I'm using the same fabric and making valances for the windows, and I'm planning on just picking up some white shears to hang from the curtain rods. The flower painting will come down, too and I will get some nursery art on the wall. I haven't decided whether to leave the Derby picture on the wall or relocate it to the basement. Also, I hate that little night stand table so it's going to have to go, but I haven't decided whether to try and do a redo and paint it and get new hardware, or just find something I like for the space.

Next is Caroline's room. I managed to get the bed put together by myself and had some sheets already, but still haven't gotten the duvet, quilt and shams for the bed. Pottery Barn says my duvet is on backorder until June (seriously, June!) and I don't want to order the quilt until I had the duvet on the bed. This is the smallest bedroom in our house and as you can see, even a twin bed seems pretty big in here, but we're making it work. I need to re-center her monogram so it's over the bed, add bedding and maybe rearrange some of her frames on the walls, but otherwise, not much to do in here.

Ignore the mess on the bed. I'm in the middle of packing for an upcoming trip!

Then there was my little facelift in the guest bathroom, also the bathroom Juston uses. I asked him a while ago if I were to do a new shower curtain, what colors would he like me to use and he mentioned navy. So I ordered some navy fabric and had Juston cut me a valance to put over the shower and I covered it in fabric and made the matching curtains. This project has dragged on forever, but I think I finally have it wrapped up. The fabric is from Ballard Home Designs.

I decided to add a splash of color with some green bath mats and towels. I'll share the finished product next week, but I really like the way it turned out. The art pictured above is by Erin of Erin M Originals Art. The monogrammed hand towel is Number Four Eleven.

I have a few things yet to finish in the Master Bathroom and my little facelift in there will be finished, then I'm eyeing a new duvet, linen curtains and a chandelier for our Master Bedroom. What is it about changing one thing in a room that makes you feel like you want to change ten more?! I'm hoping the next room I'll have finished will be Caroline's room, then the nursery, then the Master bed/bath. At least that's sort of my order of priority at this point. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

29 Weeks + Some Etsy Baby Favorites

Top and Jeans: Gap Maternity

How far along? 29 weeks. I'll be super excited to say I'm 30 weeks next week. It sounds so much closer!

Total weight gain: I haven't weighed this week, but somewhere between 12-15 pounds up.

Maternity clothes: For sure.

Best moment of the week: He had the hiccups for the first time! At first, I was thinking, why am I feeling my heartbeat in my belly like that? Then it hit me what it was!

Food cravings: Lots of fruit on the menu this week and always wanting peanuts and peanut butter.

Feeling: Finally over our colds and getting some rest again which has made a huge difference in my attitude! My belly feels so stretched out by the end of the day that it's pretty uncomfortable. I'm trying not to think about it much, because I still have a ways to go. I don't remember being so uncomfortable this early with Caroline, but maybe I've just forgotten.

Baby Goodies Acquired: Nothing new. I do feel much more behind this go around than I was with Caroline, but I think part of it is knowing the things that don't actually need to be completed. Like, it's not a huge deal if the nursery is half done because I know he won't sleep in it for a few months anyway, so I'm trying not to stress about it.

Symptoms: Some low back pain some days and an uncomfortable feeling belly in terms of feeling so stretched
Pregnancy Fitness: Back in the swing this week and so happy to be. Five days a week cardio, four days a week splits weight workouts and another day to two days of circuit workouts at home with the band and ball plus some light weights.

I thought I'd share some of the cute finds I've come across perusing Etsy the last few weeks. Any of these make for great baby gifts, too. Most I still can't order because we haven't committed to (re: agreed upon) a name for baby boy. Now that, I am stressing out about. Anyway, here are a few cute goodies and links below to where you can find them.
