How far along?  35 Weeks

Total weight gain:Up 20 pounds.

Maternity clothes: Yep

Best moment of the week: Actually started working on the nursery. I've been painting the crib the last couple of days and have almost everything I need to get purchased, just haven't received it all through the mail and haven't put what I do have up on the walls yet.

Food cravings: Ugh, not a thing. I feel so huge and like a tick that could pop.

Feeling: Feeling pretty doggone pregnant haha. Been having some discomfort in my upper abs on the right side. He tends to favor that side pretty heavily so I guess that may be the reason.

Baby Goodies Acquired: Ordered the crib bumper, some art to hang on the walls, a cover for the changing pad and the last of the odds and ends that I could think of. I still need to find some curtains and make the valances for the windows. Honestly, I still have so much to do, but I feel better that I at least have everything in motion.

Symptoms: Sore hips, feeling like a whale, not sleeping more than a couple of hours at a time...the usual final stretch stuff.

Sleep: Not so great but I know that's normal at this point.

Pregnancy Fitness: Doing good, jut slow as would be expected at this point. I'm sticking to my four day circuit training and cardio and some barre sprinkled in, my weight I'm lifting is pretty negligible at this point though, at least it sure feels that way, but I hope to bring it on home and get all the way through this pregnancy keeping my workouts up like I have been.

Juston had some meetings in Lexington this week and I had a check-up at the doctor, so we met him at his hotel and spent the night Tuesday. It worked great since my appointment was int he morning. We didn't have to get up quite so early. Caroline and I headed to Lexington on Tuesday afternoon and hit Target first for a few baby items, then we met my Goddaughter for dinner. She was in town from North Carolina so we were excited to hang out with her for a bit.

Caroline sacked out on the drive to Lexington and slept the entire way there. We chose Old Chicago for dinner and as it turned out Tuesday was "Make your own pizza day" for kids. They brought Caroline all the ingredients and she got to put her pizza together. They took it when she was finished and cooked it up for her and she was just so excited. She made a great pizza, too!

The hotel where we stayed had a pool so Caroline and her daddy took a dip. Of course I remembered everyone's swimsuits but my own. I LOVE swimming when I'm pregnant. It's about the only time I don't feel huge and it's a great exercise option, too. I had fun watching them play though and Lexi ended up coming to the hotel for awhile too to play with Caroline a bit more before she had to head back to North Carolina.

My appointment went good and I am officially in the home stretch because I have to go see the doc every week from now until baby boy's arrival.  His heart rate was 168, which is about as high as it's been since his very first appointment, but they assured me it's normal. I have no labor symptoms, my BP is healthy and I'm measuring right on schedule. I have to admit, I've been slightly terrified since we found out we're having a boy that he's going to be a biggun. I don't know why, I'm roughly the same size I was with Caroline, I've gained in the healthy weight range, I'm just super paranoid I guess. Hopefully, he'll be about Caroline's size at birth, my fingers are for sure crossed.

It's my goal to get the nursery wrapped up this weekend and early next week, get my hospital bags packed and have my sister get his car seat put in for us. I'd also love to get my whole house cleaned and organized and some freezer meals prepared for post baby, but I'm going to pace myself. I should still have plenty of time to get most of it finished and what doesn't get finished probably isn't a big deal anyway. So there you have it. Aside from possibly one more road trip this weekend, we are in full on nesting and waiting mode from here on out!

Alabama Trip

Tuesday, March 29, 2016

I mentioned earlier that we had an amazing trip to Alabama last week, we are trying to squeeze in visits to all of our favorite people and places before baby boy gets here so that in case he isn't a stellar traveler for a while like Caroline wasn't, we will have gotten some visits and hugs in. As you can see above, Caroline got to do herself a little bit of fishing on the farm. She didn't actually hook this one, PauPau did, but she reeled that sucker in like a champ...until her line snapped, but luckily, the fish was close enough that PauPau was able to grab him right quick before he got away! She was so proud of this big fish...just didn't want to touch it!

She also did a little bit of baking int he kitchen with Mimi, whipping up a delicious chocolate pie for supper one night. I'm telling you what, our girl is so lucky to have so many incredible people who love her so much and we are fortunate to have so many open their homes up to us so that we can spend more time with them. We started making the trip to Brundidge a few years ago to visit with our Goddaughter, Lexi while she was attending Auburn and we have really enjoyed coming back every spring since.

A new treat this year was PJ the baby calf! Caroline had the best time going out and checking on him all the time. She helped feed him a huge bottle our first morning there but refused to the next few days because he slobbered so much. She did give him one more bottle our last day there with PauPau helping her. That little calf was just the sweetest thing! And so dang cute.

A real treat one day was while her daddy and PauPau took Caroline fishing, Mimi and I drove up the road a little ways to Troy, Alabama and hit the downtown shopping square. There are some of the cutest little shops all along the square and I was able to pick up a few gifts I've been needing to get some friends as well as some things for Caroline and baby boy, and of course some decor for the house and a shirt for myself :) I love supporting small, locally owned businesses any chance I get. I can really see myself having one again sometime in the future. Most likely after the kids are in school and I've established my own career again.

Caroline and I went back into Troy one afternoon to grab a gift for Mimi and hit the best little ice cream shop called Milky Moos. Literally the best tasting waffle cone I have ever had and the ice cream is all home made as well.

And what road trip would be complete without a pit stop at the Cracker Barrel? I'm always so tempted to get her one of these little rocking chairs when I see them, but I have yet to do it. One day when we have a big front porch, she'll have her own pink rocker :)

Mimi, PauPau, Taco, Caroline and Juston

We could not have asked for a better visit with better people and we are already excited to see them again soon! God has blessed us so richly with the relationships he's put in our lives from our family to our chosen family :) Hope y'all have a happy Tuesday. We head to Lexington tomorrow to check on Baby Boy and I'm officially moving into the weekly appointment time of this pregnancy. Crazy to think in less than five weeks we will have a new little one under our roof!

Our Easter Weekend

Monday, March 28, 2016

We got home from our trip to Alabama late Thursday night and hit the ground running Friday morning to get everything in order for the Easter holiday celebration. My mom took care of our animals while we were gone and left Caroline a surprise project...a bird house she could build and paint. My child LOVES a good art and craft project so she couldn't wait to tear into this one. She and her daddy got started immediately after breakfast Friday morning gluing it together.

We are still waiting for the paint to dry on it before we pick a place to hang it up, but she had so much fun tackling this little project.

Saturday, we slept in a bit and did a whole lot of cleaning to get the house ready to host Easter supper on Sunday. I managed to get my workout in after a shopping trip to Lexington with my sister and our girls. We hit some of the local boutique shops to grab some gifts I've been needing to pick up for friends and some things for baby boy as well. I stayed up late cooking and baking what I could do ahead for Easter because it just makes entertaining so much easier doing as much ahead of time as possible.

Sunday morning, we got up and the Easter bunny had visited our sweet girl. I haven't loaded those pictures just yet, but Caroline was so happy about her basket. She got a mask making kit, a new puzzle, some bubbles, a bracelet and a little bit of candy.

After breakfast, we headed to my parents house to meet up with the whole family and snap a few pictures before heading off to Easter church service.

I'm so proud of the picture above because for once, my child didn't ruin the grandparents and grandchildren picture. She's always looking sour or crying when we try to get everyone in one together so I was very happy with this one! There will be another uncooperative Pate child to fill her shoes soon enough.

Mom and Dad had some baskets set up for all of the kids, too.

I just love tulips this time of year. I'd put fresh flowers in every room if I could afford to replace them every week! They just brighten everything up and make the house more homey.

And I didn't manage to snap a picture of the whole Easter supper spread, but the Lemon Blueberry cake I made turned out looking good. I didn't get a chance to garnish it since Kroger was out of fresh blueberries, but it turned out tasting amazing.

I really, really hope that everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter from the Pate family, especially this sweet little bunny :)

34 Weeks + A Bunny Bait Recipe

Friday, March 25, 2016

How far along?  34 Weeks

Total weight gain:Up 18 pounds.

Maternity clothes: Yes. I've made due with purchasing a pair of maternity jeans, a pair of maternity skinny pants, a black and a white maternity tank, three maternity dresses and one long sleeve maternity top. I got all of it from either Gap or Old Navy and probably spent about $120 on everything total. I don't anticipate needing anything else. Just mixing these pieces with what I have that's loose and flowy has worked great. Maternity clothes just seem like such a waste of money, but a few pieces are obviously necessary.

Best moment of the week: We had a wonderful trip to Alabama and spent the week with some of the best people we know!

Food cravings: I ate more this past week than I probably have in the last two months, but I'm over it now haha. Our Alabama hostess, Mimi is such a great cook so I had to indulge a bit ;) As far as food though, I've cut out most carbs like rice, pasta, etc because I did figure out those types of foods were making me completely miserable after even consuming small quantities.

Feeling: Feeling pretty doggone pregnant haha. Been having some discomfort in my upper abs on the right side. He tends to favor that side pretty heavily so I guess that may be the reason.

Baby Goodies Acquired: We got a few gifts for baby boy this week from family and I picked up his crib skirt while I was in Alabama from the lady who made it for us. I LOVE it!

Symptoms: Discomfort in my left side and right upper abs, my hips are feeling sore when I wake up of a morning from sleeping on them, not very hungry except first thing in the morning, thirsty alllll the time.

Sleep: About the same. I usually wake up twice during the night for potty breaks and it takes me about an hour to go back to sleep each time because I'll lay there thinking about how much I have left to do and how little time I have left to do it all. I just keep reminding myself that as long as he gets here and we're all safe and healthy, the rest is just not really that important...I still want to get it done though.

Pregnancy Fitness: I've changed up my workout format this last week, moving from doing split workouts for individual body parts into doing circuit style total body workouts instead. They're easier on me and as for cardio, it's about the same as what I was doing before. I really miss the rowing machine and a few of the specific exercises I've had to give up for the time being, but not much time left now, so I figure as long as I'm staying active and keeping my muscles working and moving, it'll pay off at least a little bit in the postpartum time.

Now, on to non-pregnancy and baby related items, I made a quick, easy and addictive snack this past week with Caroline called Bunny Bait. You've probably seen it on Pinterest before, but this was my first time making it and man is it SO yummy!

What you need:
One package white chocolate candy melt wafers
2 bags of popped popcorn
1 container of sprinkles
1 bag Easter colored M&M's
stick pretzels broken into pieces

First, you pop your bags of popcorn and put it into a large bowl, then you'll melt the candy melts according to the directions on the bag. We did 30 seconds at a time on half power and stirred in between each time until they melted. Once the candy is melted, pour it over the popcorn and stir thoroughly, but slowly so you don't break up the popcorn too much

Next, once the melted candy has dried on your popcorn (probably about twenty minutes) your little helpers (if you're using them) can dump in the all of the sprinkles, the whole bag of M&Ms and the broken pretzel pieces. Just mix to combine and you're ready to snack, but I will warn you, it is super addicting. I could not stay out of this stuff.

We did bag up quite a few packages of this to give to Caroline's cousins and our friends kids.
It's a great option to set our for visitors on Easter weekend.

Hope everyone's Good Friday has treated them well and your Easter weekend is packed with family and blessings.

Five on Friday: Favorite Spring Maternity Looks

Friday, March 18, 2016

I am always looking for cute but comfy outfit ideas to style this baby bump and Pinterest is typically my go-to for finding said outfits. So I thought I would share a few of my recent favorite springy maternity outfit finds for this Five on Friday in case anyone out there reading is on the lookout for some ideas. You'll notice lots of black, which has become my favorite color to wear while pregnant as it is so forgiving :)

How far along?  33 Weeks

Total weight gain:Up 18 pounds.

Maternity clothes: Yes and I can't wait to get back into all of my cute spring/summer clothes once baby boy gets here! I'm still on the hunt for an Easter dress but haven't had any luck finding anything I love so far.

Best moment of the week: The clocks springing forward, the beautiful, warm weather, flowers and trees blooming and a definite taste of spring in the air around our parts. I absolutely love this time of year.

Food cravings: Meh, nothing really sounds good right now. The bigger he gets, the less I like to eat, and let me tell you I am a food lover!

Feeling: I can really tell I'm getting to the home stretch now. I'm feeling more and more uncomfortable, getting up out of the floor is getting tougher, my belly button is way out there, I get super winded carrying Caroline around and could not tell you the last time I slept all night without getting up to use the restroom haha

Baby Goodies Acquired: Haven't purchased anything new lately, but I have been dragging things out of storage like the infant car seat, swaddling blankets (at least the non-pink ones we had), bottles, etc. I feel like I literally just put these things away.

Symptoms: The usual things you'd expect that come along with being over eight months pregnant.

Sleep: Not the greatest, but not as bad as it'll be with a newborn :)

Pregnancy Fitness: Man, workouts are getting tougher. I go sooooo slow for cardio and can really only use two or three cardio machines. I'm getting more limited on my weight workouts, but try and do as much as I can safely. Still keeping at it four days a week with the weights and four, sometimes five days of cardio. My hope are that sticking to my workouts as long as I can will help me to bounce back quicker for Caroline's sake. That girl won't slow down for anyone, so I need to be able to keep up!

I picked up some pansies from the grocery last week and planted them in our window boxes over the weekend. I just love having flowers inside and outside the house, they make me happy. I might have jumped the gun a bit planting these since we're due a cold snap this weekend, but hopefully not.

This is what most of our weekends look like. Caroline glued to her daddy's hip, Dixie never far behind either of them. That little pup gets SO jealous when Juston pays anyone else attention.

And speaking of our pups, little Lucy got attacked by something over the weekend so I had to take her to the vet to get some stitches on her neck on Monday. They wouldn't see her over the weekend so we had to wait. She has to wear a cone of shame all week until they are ready to take her stitches out next week. She ought to be right as rain in a couple of weeks, but we hare going to have to figure out a more dog proof method for keeping her in our fence when she's outside. She figured out an escape route and now she's impossible to keep in there.

Today was my last day working until after the baby gets here so I just won't know what to do with myself. I'm sure I'll still be popping in but not doing anything active while I'm there. I sure will miss it until I can get back in June!.

Scenes from our Weekend

Monday, March 14, 2016

We have got one crazy week ahead of us, so we spent most of the weekend lazing around the house, cleaning, getting some window boxes ready for the pansies I picked up and just loving on each other.

Friday, I had a regular checkup with my OB and everything is looking right on schedule and just like it should so far. He is head down right now, measuring right at 32 week and heart rate was 152. After my appointment, I hit a couple of local boutique shops and grabbed some really cute gifts and things for the house and the kids. I hit Baby Bundles, Two Chicks and Company and Chick Fil A. It was a fun solo afternoon I have to admit.

I grabbed an Easter egg coloring kit while I was at the grocery Friday evening and of course, once Caroline knew we had it, nothing would suit but to color those bad boys! So Sunday afternoon, we got to work.

The look on her face in the picture above just cracks me up. She looks meaner than a snake, but she was just talking. She has a very expressive face I guess. To finish off the eggs, we added some sparkles. I have to admit, it made me laugh thinking about Juston taking these glitter eggs to work to snack on. He's the only one in the house that will eat eggs hard boiled so he's stuck with them.

It was such a nice weekend except for some rain showers. Saturday, we grilled and Caroline rode her bike around while we were outside. That child would live outside if we would let her, she never wants to come back inside.
I came across the cutest little dress for Caroline last week from an online shop Sugarplum Lane. It's by Bailey Boys and I just love almost anything with flamingos for summertime. I thought it would be really cute for our beach vacation among other things. Even though she still wears a 3T in everything, I am only getting 4T in anything new that I buy her. I figure she can wear most of it a little big this summer, it'll fit great next summer and hopefully still work the following summer as well.

I wasn't planning on getting anything from the Lilly event this weekend, but after getting Caroline's flamingo dress in the mail, I had to snag the Lilly flamingo tee shown below. I had the coconuts shirt in this same cut last summer and it ran really big, so I ordered an XS in this even thought I almost always wear a small in Lilly stuff.

So that was our over-the-top exciting weekend in a nutshell and a couple of pictures. We have our last little bit of pre-baby travel coming up over the next couple of weeks and after that it's all cleaning, organizing and nesting before the boy and obviously soaking up the last few weeks of just being a family of three.

Small Business Saturday: Sugar Boutique

Saturday, March 12, 2016

Anytime I've done OOTD posts or pics on here, there's a good chance something from Sugar Boutique has been shown. I found the site for the brick and mortar store probably four years ago through Facebook and have frequented them ever since. They carry some of the more pricey but quality brands like Jude Connelly, Britt Ryan and Lilly Pulitzer, but also carry a huge array of affordable and adorable brands like Karlie and lots of price points in between.

The owner of the boutique, Sandi, is always so sweet. I've never gotten to actually meet her in person, but hopefully one day I'll get to go to the actual store and not just the online shop :)

There's usually a pretty great selection in their sale section of their website. I get a lot of Lilly stuff on sale from Sugar year round, not just during the crazy ESS sale time!
