Reds Game

Monday, July 18, 2016

Yesterday, the whole family packed up and headed to Cincinnati for the day. Thanks to my brother-in-law, we were able to go watch the Reds from a suite, which worked out SO great with the kids. It was our first sporting event with all four of us and a great experience!

We got to Great American Ballpark pretty early so we snapped a few pictures before the game got going. It was an absolutely perfect day to watch some baseball. I'll be honest, I'm not the hugest baseball fan after about the first five innings, but our suite was air conditioned and had lots of yummy food, in my opinion, the only way to do a ball game.

Carter did really well, all things considered. He spent most of the time inside since the loud crowd noises seemed to upset him, but he was in the best mood and did great one the car ride to and from.

We got a visit from one of the Reds mascots and Caroline was not a fan at all. I was really surprised because she loved every character she met when we did Disney World. I guess the difference is she was familiar with those characters and this was some random big, red, furry thing she'd never seen before.

It was such a fun way to spend a Sunday. It was me, Juston and the kids, My sister and her family, our parents and my brother-in-law's mother, who Caroline thinks is her Grandma, too since her cousins call her Grandma. My only concern is that now Caroline is going to expect this type of setup when we start hitting the SEC college football stadiums this fall and it will definitely be different! haha

Fourth of July

Monday, July 11, 2016

I know I'm a week late, but I'm in catch-up mode as usual, so I'm just now sharing our Fourth of July weekend! It feels like it happened forever ago, so it's hard to believe this was all just last weekend. Our holiday weekend got off to a bit of an early start since Juston had a surprise date night planned for us on Friday. He took off work a bit early on Friday and my parents and sister watched the kids in shifts while we were gone. I left them with my parents, then my sister and her family picked them up and took them over to their camper until we got home.
Our first stop on the date was Mitchell's Fish Market at Newport on the Levee in Northern Kentucky. This is the restaurant we went to on our very first date and this was the first time we'd been back since. After dinner, we headed to the second surprise of the evening which was Riverbend for Zac Brown Band in concert. This was our first date night out since having Carter and what's even funnier is our very first date night after having Caroline was to a ZBB concert. They were just as amazing as I remembered and I could literally listen to ZBB perform every single weekend and never tire of it. They are all such incredible musicians and put on such a great concert.

We got home pretty late (by married parent standards), but decided to go ahead and pick the kids up so they wouldn't wake all my sister's family at the crack of dawn.

I never knew there were so many adorable options for matching brother and sister outfits, but I'm loving them all! These are by Le Top and Carter's is from Hannah B's in Murrell's Inlet, SC and Caroline's is from They are the softest little outfits and were perfect for July 4th weekend.

Saturday was cloudy and humid, but pretty nice overall. We typically head out on the boat with my sister's family on July 4th weekend, but the river was a big muddy mess with tons of debris from all the rain we'd had all week long, so since boating was a no go, the whole family got together at my sister's family camper for a cookout they hosted.

I don't think she ever actually eats them, but Caroline loves roasting marshmallows with her Uncle Kursten. She loves watching him start the fire, too.

Caroline just loves her Papa, too. We all ate some great food, sat around chatting and stayed at the camper until bedtime before heading home for the night.

Sunday was a complete washout. It poured rain all day long so we did a whole lot of nothing. I got a workout in, me and the kids met my mom at church and I finally got around to ironing and cleaning.

Caroline pretended to be a deer in one of her little colored masks from E Plus Me. We grabbed these while we were in Alabama a few months back and she has the best time coloring these in when the mood strikes.

Me and the kids went all matchy matchy for church in our gingham. Juston was just glad I didn't put Carter in pink gingham, too! I just adore these sweet babies of mine so very much!!!

July 4th fell on a Monday this year so that meant an extra long weekend having Juston home and we were all excited about that! Turned out it rained alllll day Monday, too. We thought the city wasn't going to be able to do their fireworks, but it ended up clearing up literally about thirty minutes before the firework show started. We all pulled a bunch of chairs out into my parents front yard and sat together watching the firework show. The city put on a really good one again this year and Carter slept in my lap through the entire thing. We had a really great weekend and I hated to see it come to an end, but I'm so thankful we were all able to spend it together with family.

Carter~ Two Months

Sunday, July 10, 2016

Baby: Carter Scott
Age: Two months
Birthday: April 26, 2016
Weight: 13 pounds 1 ounce
Length: 22 inches long
Sleep: 10:00 pm6:30 am typically
My Bedtime: 10 ish pm
Clothes Size: 3-6 months
Milestones Reached: Smiling all the time in response to people talking to him and playing with him. He baby talks with the fan all the time, too, especially in the evenings before bedtime when I lay him on our bed. He watches Caroline's every move when she is in the same room and chattering away.

I could not be any more obsessed with this sweet baby boy if I tried and I think everyone in my family feels the same way. I have never seen a sweeter baby and I feel SO blessed to have my two little sweeties. Caroline does so great and her new thing is that she loves to un-velcro his diapers when we are changing him. She still like to hold him as soon as he wakes up for the day and a lot of mornings will give him his morning bottle. I hope they will not only love each other as they grow up, but that they will genuinely like each other. So far, we're off to a great start.

Carter is a great traveler for the most part, as long as he doesn't get too hot in his car seat. I took him to his first cheerleading practice this week, which he hated and cried almost the entire time we were there, which is so not like him at all. I think he has finally slowed down in gaining weight and seems to be getting longer now instead. He eats about every two and a half hours, about 5 ounces of breast milk from his bottle. To spite my many attempts, he still refuses to latch to nurse, so I just pump allllll the time.

He loves our walks that we take every morning and evening and will fall asleep almost instantly a lot of the times. When he's awake, he is constantly moving his legs and his arms...Legs kick non stop like he's pedaling a bike and his arms just swing up and down.

Our Carter man is just as sweet as he looks 98% of the time!

Life Lately

Wednesday, July 6, 2016

Summer has just been flying by around our parts and we are trying to soak it all up while we can. I hate to jinx myself, but I honestly feel like the transition from one child to two children has gone much more smooth than adjusting to having just one child. Carter is such a sweet little baby and Caroline has adjusted to being a big sister like she was made for the job. There have been days where we've had growing pains, but as a whole, it's been such a great experience. I can't tell you how much I fretted over her feeling neglected or like Carter was taking away from her time, but instead, it's just added another element of fun to our time together (mostly). She loves to hold him first thing every morning when I bring him out and a lot of mornings, she'll even feed him his bottle.

I am one who loves to have a good book in hand, but I've had trouble carving out the time for it since having Carter. The books above are a few I have just waiting to be picked up. I have started Lowcountry Wedding and am loving it so far, just having trouble getting the time I want to read it all.

We have already spent tons of time outside either in my sister's pool, where Caroline is now doing a solid doggy paddle without her puddlejumper on, or in Caroline's little pink plastic pool at our house. She had just started swimming on her own last summer right as pool days were winding down, so we basically had to just start over this summer, but she's doing great.

Caroline's imagination is just one of the most fun things to witness and be a part of.  In the picture above, she'd left the room and came back with that skillet, then rared back and looked at me before informing me that she was Rapunzel. She's constantly pretending to be different characters or people that we know.

Carter's face in this picture cracks me up! If I thought getting a decent picture with just one child in it, I didn't know difficult ha!

Most days, Caroline will alternate between riding my old big wheels (pictured above), or my nieces princess scooter on my parents porch. She will just go back and forth all afternoon as long as she has someone to talk to while she does it. The girl is never at a loss for words.

We got to meet Juston for lunch one day a couple of weeks ago and eating out is definitely a new experience with two of them! I'd forgotten what it was like to have to lug around a diaper bag and a car seat.

Is there anything sweeter than a sleeping baby in your lap?

Summer may be going past at a record pace, but  we still have lots planned to look forward to. We are heading to Lexington to hit the Farmer's Market this weekend, taking our family beach trip in a couple of weeks and planning a fourth (!!!) birthday party for a special little chick. I'll hopefully be taking my real estate license exam at some point before summer's end. I have a class to finish in the next couple of weeks first though. I was just telling my husband the other day that I feel like years down the road, these are the days that I'd give anything to go back and live all over again, so I'm trying to appreciate it all now while we're immersed in it. God has certainly blessed us abundantly.
