Recent Beauty Buys and Empties

When it comes to makeup products, I tend to make beauty buys in spurts. Since I don't wear makeup every day, I can buy a few really great (sometimes seasonal) items maybe three of four times a year and it'll last my a very long time. I've been on a beauty kick lately and thought I would share some of my new favorite acquisitions as well as some things that I've used up and include my thoughts on the products.

The first few products I'm sharing are from Sephora. Sign up for Ebates and you can receive 4% cashback on anything you purchase from there, as well as from tons of other stores you probably already visit.

I've used the Nars Orgasm blush for years now and it's my favorite blush. No matter which other shades or brands I try, I always come back to Orgasm because it seems to flatter my skin tone year round. Well, I decided to branch out and try the blush/bronzer combo in Orgasm/ Laguna and I love it. The Laguna bronzer is just what my pale face needed to a bit of color. I would definitely recommend this.

This rosebud salve was cheaper and well-reviewed, so I threw it into my online cart almost as an afterthought, but I like it enough to recommend it. It has a light finish and doesn't feel heavy or greasy. I like to use it over my lipstick.

Best undereye concealer I've tried. I have it in Ginger, which seems to suit my skin better when I have a tan, but I can still use it now as well. In a nutshell, it does what it says it will do which is all you can ask from a concealer I suppose.

This mascara is amazing. I love how dramatic it makes my lashes look with a few coats. I do like to go heavier with my mascara, like apply coats until my arms get tired because I just love a heavier lash look personally, and this mascara will do that for you. There are a couple of things I don't love about it though, one being the applicator. I don't know what it is, but I can never apply it without getting it all over my lids and I don't have this problem with any other mascara I use. Maybe it's just me? And the only other issue I have with it is that it is VERY hard for me to remove. I typically just wash my face with a cleanser and warm water, but even scrubbing with a washrag, I will still have dark rings under my eyes the next morning if I've worn this mascara. I would still recommend it though because I feel like the benefit outweighs the downfalls.

I love this shade for the cooler months on myself. It looks very purple in the photo, but it doesn't apply purple at all. It's more of a deep plum with burgundy undertones. It's really pretty though and wears really well. I only had to reapply once the last time I wore it over maybe a five hour time frame. I'd recommend this for sure.

I can not say enough good things about this LUSH shampoo. First, it smells heavenly. It has a really clean, almost beachy scent that I just adore. It's a sea salt shampoo, so its coarse when you first get it on, but it lathers up really well. My hair just feels so clean after I use this and it really scrubs your scalp clean of products as well. Anytime I use a lot of hairspray or volumizing powder, this shampoo is a must. I 100% would recommend this shampoo to anyone. It's also probably worth noting that my hair tends to be oily after a day, maybe two and this shampoo doesn't weigh it down or make it feel greasy at all. I can easily get away with washing every two days when I use this when I typically need to do every day. And a huge bonus of anything from LUSH is that their natural products that aren't laden with tons of chemical ingredients.

Another LUSH love, this conditioner. Highly recommend this as a partner to the shampoo I listed above. I condition all the time, but it's especially important to my hair to condition in the colder months since my hair gets so dry and staticy if I don't.

And finally, this Sapelo Seaweed Cleanser. I started using this a couple of months ago and I really like it. The company that makes it is based in Savannah, GA. This cleanser is very gentle. I have skin that's super sensitive and breaks out easily anytime I try new products or do anything out of my normal routine, but this cleanser has not cause that at all for me. I use it every time I shower and to remove my makeup at the end of the day. It smells great and doesn't have a harsh chemical feel. You know how sometimes when you use a facewash you skin just feels sort of stripped afterwards? Well, this doesn't do that.

I've ordered a few more products form Lush as well as some other new makeups to try, so I will try to remember to share those once I've used them if any are worth sharing.

  1. Hi Jena! I started following your blog a little over a year ago, after meeting you at a KCTCS event. I too like thick mascara. Have you tried too faced mascara? Can you compare the Dior to the too faced?

    1. Hey Jennifer! Great to hear from you, I hope you're doing well! I haven't tried the Too Faced, but I will have to. If I don't use this Dior, I typically use L'Oreal Double Extend for probably the last year or more. I will give the Too Faced a try and report back ;)
