Great Basics for Spring

Wednesday, March 14, 2018

I've had Spring on my mind for a few weeks now, wishing that I could just will it here already, but as a fun joke, it snowed in Kentucky this week, so we'll be waiting just a bit longer. But the primises are showing up all around that Spring's arrival is not far off. Our trees have buds, pansies are for sale at the store and the daffodils and tulips are all over the place. I love that Spring always feels like a new beginning. Everything just feels so fresh and bright after a long, dark winter, so I've been tackling some Spring cleaning this week and I'm currently working my way through my closet and drawers. I've honestly pulled things that I've had and not worn since HIGH SCHOOL! That's embarrassing to admit, but for some reason, I develop weird emotional attachments to clothes that I associate with certain memories and hang on to them way longer than necessary.

Doing all the cleaning out and purging has made me realize that I want to lean towards investing in really great basics for my wardrobe, and adding in s few fun, trendy pieces along the way every now and then. I got to searching some of my favorite retailers for what I'd consider spring wardrobe staples and I thought I'd share some of those here with y'all.  If you see anything you like, just click on the link below the picture and it'll take you right to the item. I'll start with what I'd consider to be some great basic wardrobe staples.

This sweater is great for layering on cool spring days. It would look great with white denim or skinny blue jeans. You could pair it with a skirt or wear it overtop of a slim cut maxi dress. Pair it with a button down oxford shirt and dress pants and add some fun jewelry to the mix to spice it up.

I just ordered these jeans a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely love them. They run true to size and are so figure flattering. They also have a higher rise which is great for chasing your kids around and not crack-mooning other people around you.

I feel like these booties are great for just about anytime of the year, but especially ideal for the transitional weeks of spring or fall. I just love them.

Does this dress give anyone else Reese Witherspoon Sweet Home Alabama vibes? I've looked high and low for a long time for a dress to replicate her look in the scene where she's on the dock at the airplane talking to Jake...anyone else? Just me? OK, cool. Anyway, this dress paired with cowboy boots would be perfect for those outdoor country concerts that are around the corner and it's under $50!

It's blue and white, there's a bow in the back...what more could I need? This is a fun option for a date night, church, a casual wedding, the possibilities are endless.

I have a lot of blue and white in my closet, so these earrings would go with tons of things, and would also be great for upcoming summer celebrations like Memorial Day weekend and the Fourth.

Something simple like this black maxi dress is timeless and will get so much use. I love dresses in the spring for their simplicity. It's so easy to just throw them on with some cute sandals and you're all set.

April showers may be a bit more tolerable when you have a cute rain jacket like this one.

A few other fun spring wardrobe additions...
